Goodreads' Synopsis:
Harry Potter can't wait for his holidays with the dire Dursleys to end. But a small, self-punishing house-elf warns Harry of mortal danger awaiting him at Hogwarts. Returning to the castle nevertheless, Harry hears a rumour about the Chamber of Secrets, holding unknown horrors for wizards of Muggle parentage. Now someone is casing spells that turn people to stone, and a terrible warning is found painted on the wall. The chief suspect - always in the wrong place - is Harry. But something much more terrifying has yet to be unleashed.

My Review:

I have definitely left reading Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets for too long. In fact, I should have read the whole series many many years ago..I apologise. I have seen all of the movies and loved them, but so far the books in the series are so much better (as always).
As I only had the movie to go on, I was pleasantly surprised by a number of scenes that were left out of the movie, and although the movie worked, the book worked so much better.
The only thing I think that surprised me more was the length of the scenes of Harry in the Chamber itself. I remember that in the movie, those scenes seemed to go forever, it was the bulk of the movie, however, in the book, it was relatively short and to the point. I think I preferred this more. There were no epic chases between Harry and the Basilisk, the big events (Fawkes coming to the rescue and blinding the monster, the sorting hat presenting the Sword of Godrick Gryffindor for Harry to use) were all there and brilliantly told.
I think that J. K. Rowling is an amazing storyteller and it is no wonder that she has done as well as she has. She has such talent, and I am in awe of her.
The characters were brilliant, as always, and she did an amazing job of making Professor Gilderoy Lockhart so absolutely infuriating. He drove me crazy, as he was meant to and that is a job well done.

All in all, this book had everything, and I absolutely loved every page. I can't wait to get to the rest of the series!
