Goodreads' Synopsis:
Other than her work, Fiona doesn't ask for much: the peace of the landscape, the companionship of her dogs, the safe haven of friends and family. Romantic entanglements are very far down on her list - and certainly not with artist Simon Doyle. but he doesn't know that Fiona harbours a terrible secret.

Book Review:

Nora Roberts once again delivers with her mystery/thriller The Search. I have been a fan of Roberts for longer than I remember, and she never disappoints.

In this one we follow Fiona Bristow, who is a young woman who lives alone on an island named Orcas, with her three dogs whom she trained herself. She runs an obedience school for dogs, as well as orchestrating a volunteer Canine Search and Rescue Team. She has a past that would scare the hell out of anyone, but she uses her new life as a distraction from the demons, from what she survived all those years previous.
Enter Simon Doyle. He enters Fiona's life as a man who needs help training his dog, and ends up being her everything. He is rude, stubborn and doesn't say what he doesn't mean. It annoys him that she means so much, it was just meant to be sex, but it turned out to be so much more than that.

Roberts has a way of writing characters that you can't help but love. The characters are very similar in personality as those in her other novel Angels Fall, You can read my review here). Fiona is strong, brave and independent. Simon is bull-headed and doesn't need or want a woman making him feel things. Both of them work out that they are what the other needs in this moment, for Fiona needs protection and Simon was going to protect her, whether she liked it or not.

The synopsis on Goodreads or the back of the book itself doesn't give much in the way of details concerning what the "secret" or the "danger" is, so I will not go into it too much as I don't want to spoil it for you all..but I will say that this is an on-the-edge-of-your-seat suspense and I couldn't put it down until I got to the end and found out what happened! I read the last 60% of this book this afternoon and I refused to do anything else until I knew how it ended, to me, that is the definition of a good book!

In my opinion, The Search had it all. Romance; suspense; mystery/thriller; family and friendship. But I think the best part was the dogs! I am a sucker for animals, and the dogs were a large part of the story and the life of the main characters, it made it easy to read about their regular day-to-day life when the action was on the back burner. If you are a fan of romance with major mystery and suspense, then this book is for you! Pick it up, you won't regret it!
